Assistant Trainer

What we look for are good communicators (with humans and dogs) who have humor, don’t take themselves too seriously, are open to learning and seeing things “outside of the box.” In our case, the “box” is roughly equivalent to techniques that may – or may not help a dog get over his problem or teach a puppy what he needs to know. Thinking outside the box means looking closely at what a dog brings and finding the least stressful, kindest, even enjoyable way to instruct or change unwanted and sometimes dangerous behaviors. One approach doesn’t fit every dog, nor are all training techniques universally helpful. A sense of humor and a willingness to work in partnership with other people are important.

We use behavior modification techniques including operant conditioning (marker training) and encourage dogs to figure things out. In this way dogs learn how to learn, develop confidence and retain their personality and zest for life. All of our training programs and classes are designed to engage dogs mentally and physically. If you don’t have the whole dog, you can’t teach him much.

Prior Experience
While we prefer prior experience working with dogs, such as training and/or behavior modification, we do train people. Practical experience with animals is a plus, as is volunteering at a local shelter or rescue organization. All prior experience is a plus.
